STAND UP FOR HAITI

An earthquake measuring 7.3 on the Richter scale struck Haiti on 12 January 2010. It has primarily affected the capital Port-au-Prince and other areas in the West Province which has an estimated population of 2.2 million leaving an estimated death toll of about 200.000 people and thousands homeless.

At least 482,000 people have left Haiti's capital Port-au-Prince since the Jan 12 earthquake. Haitian authorities have helped 235,000 people leave Port-au-Prince, most of who were taken to nearby villages for temporary shelter.

Food was running out in Grande Anse, Nippes and Plateau due to an increased influx of people according to the UN and the population is also straining the treatment capacity of medical centers at the migrant destinations for a lack of equipment, facilities and medicine.

The desperation and enormity of the situation has inspired people all over the world to respond quickly and generously.  In just the first two weeks after the quake, 40 charities received more than half a billion dollars in donations to support their relief efforts in Haiti.

The Buea Young talents have come together in solidarity in a campaign or cause dubbed ‘’STAND UP 4 HAITI’’ to help support Haiti in the meagre way they can to save lives devastated by the disaster.

This initiative will involve composing and recording a song for the cause, shooting the video and a grand musical live concert featuring SOUMBIL from Ivory Coast to raise funds that will be directed to the US embassy and to relief organization UNICEF. CDs will therefore be sold at the concert to raise this fund.

This project involves renown Buea-based artists like BAAM,Bright Phase,Tata Kingue,Sley,Zinnia,Steveslil,Zionside,Abigail,Rude Boy, Bob Gala Didier, and many more.
